Climate Yoga

Nature

In this episode, we celebrate the natural world's beauty, exploring how ecosystems like forests, wetlands, mangroves, seagrass, and grasslands play critical roles in carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation. It's an invitation to reconnect with nature and recognize our role in its preservation.

This yoga practice includes nature visualization and many, many tree poses.

Nature itself is the best physician

Nature's ecosystems play a crucial role in sustaining life:

  • Air Purification: Plants improve air quality and increase oxygen levels, benefiting our respiratory health.

  • Carbon Sequestration: Forests, seaweed, and mangroves absorb carbon dioxide, significantly reducing atmospheric CO2. This process helps mitigate global warming and stabilizes climate patterns.

  • Biodiversity and Habitat: Diverse ecosystems support biodiversity, providing essential habitats for wildlife and maintaining ecological balance.

Things that I love:

  • Trees: Through photosynthesis, trees convert CO2 into oxygen, storing carbon in their wood, leaves, and roots, making them vital carbon sinks.

  • Seaweed: Fast-growing and expansive, seaweed efficiently locks away carbon and supports marine biodiversity.

  • Mangroves: These coastal ecosystems store carbon in their soil and protect shorelines, supporting diverse marine life.

Earthed is a charity and a nature skills platform that exists to make every river, city, farm and balcony burst with life. Here, you can learn skills from our nature teachers, celebrate traditional knowledge and those who hold it and take part in community activities across many topics and terrains.

When you add up the impact on carbon sequestration and storage, forest protection and tropical and temperate forest restoration together are the most powerful solution available to address global warming.
